I really enjoyed this quote from a recent Substack of Dr Jean Renouf’s (founder of Plan C). Jean has only recently joined Substack, and has some great knowledge and insights from his work.
the individualist, survivalist and often militarised version of prepping remains culturally powerful, and it offers a useful contrast with community resilience.
The same water tank, battery, garden, radio or food store can express either worldview. The question is not whether you are prepared. The question is whether your preparedness increases only your private margin of safety, or whether it also increases the adaptive capacity of the people around you.
Increasing the adaptive capacity of (myself &) people around me, is a better articulation of what I’m hoping to achieve. Like all inner work it isn’t always easy to measure concretely, but my felt sense is that I’m making progress, simply by choosing to show up consistently and listen. To face what is going on, and not turn away. To sense make, so I can have these conversations now and in the future.
Would love to hear if this resonates, and if you’re working on something in particular?
